The Virginia Beach Boardwalk is a 28 feet wide boardwalk built around the year 1888. It was originally built using planks of wood but was later on upgraded to concrete when Virginia Beach started to expand to make room for the rail transportation system. Along the boardwalk is a variety of hotels and restaurants as well as an array of nautical sculptures that adorn the side streets leading to Atlantic Avenue.
